McCoy Audio Technologies LLC (MAT) is the owner of US Patent No. 5,790,958. The patent is directed to the inclusion of FM stereo reception capability in a general purpose computer, such as FM radio enabled smartphones, as well as cards and USB drives that add FM radio capabilities to personal computers.

There is an ongoing push for a legal mandate, either through legislation or an administrative decision, to require all mobile phones to be equipped with an FM radio receiver. These efforts have bipartisan support and have a good probability of becoming law.
